In the background I heard Tina screaming for me and Mason. My heart beat in my chest rapidly. Why was he asking me what the fuck to do? I didn't know! Fuck, what do I do? The babies were coming! Holy shit, the babies were coming.

I felt like I needed to sit down. I felt like I needed a drink. Damn, I wished I could be there with Mason and Tina so they weren't going through this alone.

Yvonne ripped the phone out of my hands. “Mason? This is Yvonne Simms. How far apart are the contractions?” Yvonne gave me an encouraging smile. “Okay,” she said to whatever Mason said. “Call the hospital to let them know you are on the way, and then call Carter Hyde for a police escort so you can drive Tina. It sounds like you have a little bit of time to get her to Seattle.”

Yvonne handed me the phone. I sighed in relief when I heard Mason's voice again. He sounded calmer. Thank fuck that Yvonne had a cool head in crazy situations.

“You're coming to the hospital soon right?”

“As soon as I can,” I promised.

“You're leaving now,” Yvonne said fiercely. “We can finish my tattoo later.”

“I can't let you leave here with unfinished work.”

Yvonne crossed her arms over her chest. “You can and you will. I'll be back monday to finish my piece.”

Without a word she got up and walked out of my room.

“My client just left me,” I said to Mason.

“Baby, we kind of have bigger issues right now.”

“Right. Fuck. I'm gonna be a dad.”

“You're going to be the best dad.”

Fifteen hours and forty-seven minutes later we welcomed Bailey Amy Knox and Victor Franklin Knox into the world. Bailey was the name Mason and Tina had agreed on for our daughter, and I had vetoed it in the beginning, but had come to love; and Victor was named after Tina's grandfather. He had been a great man that had loved and cherished Tina before he died when she was fifteen.

I was sitting outside of Tina's recovery room on the ground. I still couldn't believe it. I was a fucking father. I had two beautiful angels that I instantly fell in love with the second their eyes met mine when I held them. They both had a beautiful head full of curly dark hair and I was hoping that one of them had Tina's brown eyes and the other had my green ones. I knew it was impossible, but I wished there was a way to mix Mason up in their features as well. I knew they would get something from him in the future; because of Mason our kids were going to be loving, open and honest. And possibly a little sarcastic and dramatic.

“They really are something,” Mason said, coming down the hall and sliding down to the floor next to me.

Of course most of our friends—the ones who were able to drop everything they were doing—had driven to the hospital to provide moral support. They were all in the room gushing over Bailey and Victor. Diego had even Skyped Viola and Gigi so they could see the babies while they honeymooned in Italy.

“How are you doing?” Mason asked me.

“You promise me you won't let me fuck up?”

  “Cross my heart.”

I turned to him and placed my hand on the side of his neck, curling my fingers around the nape. I stroked my thumb just below his jaw. His beautiful teal eyes were locked on me, and I felt my heart swell. As sappy and as fucking stupid as it sounded: Mason never failed to take my breath away. Yeah, I was never going to admit that shit out loud.

“I love you, Mason Felix Dewitt.”

  “I know, Zachary Benjamin Knox.”

“Say it back,” I said, smiling.

  “No.”

  “Yes.”

  “No.”

“Say it,” I growled, causing Mason to chuckle.

“Fine. I love you too, weirdo.”

I kissed him long and hard. I kissed him until Tina screamed for us to come back into the room and hold our babies.
